Catching up with Glee star Cory Monteith

It’s clear that Glee star Cory Monteith really wants to talk about the little film project that took him to Vancouver for a weekend filming with director Carl Bessai and Monteith’s actor pal Dustin Milligan.

There’s a late-night message from him on my office phone mid-week, the only time Monteith could call during a hectic week filming Glee in Los Angeles. Finally he’s on the line again Thursday afternoon.

“I’ve got just a minute,” he says. “I’m on set now, and we’re just waiting for the lights to get set up.”

Not a lot of actors have experienced the 28-year-old Monteith’s light-speed ride from relative unknown to pop-culture fixture. When I last talked to him in June 2009, he was still under the radar, having filmed six Glee episodes, and only the pilot had aired. Since then, the musical high-school series has made its stars into household names, with magazine covers, award show appearances, a touring live musical show that had them playing several dates at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, and the corresponding loss of privacy that comes with all that.

“I had no idea what was coming,” says Monteith. “It’s been uncharted territory for all of us. Our lives and our landscapes personally have changed a lot because of what the show has become.”

Cory: Where are the Glee haters?

The Press Association

Cory Monteith is still amazed by how positively people respond to Glee.

The hit show has just picked up its second Golden Globe for television’s best comedy or musical, and the 28-year-old is starting to wonder if there’s anyone out there who doesn’t love the all-singing, all-dancing spectacular.

“It’s nice to be liked. It’s been fun, everybody’s very supportive and has something nice to say. I’m just waiting for all the haters – where did all the haters go? Maybe I don’t read the right blogs,” he said.

The actor, who plays high school jock Finn Hudson, admitted that he wasn’t an obvious choice for the role.

“It’s my running joke that I’m a bad dancer and it’s true. It’s obvious. I’d never even been an actor, I was a construction worker before. This has all come as quite a shock.”

Cory is happy to keep starring in Glee – which has kicked off its second series on E4 on Mondays and Channel 4 on Sundays – for as long as possible.

“I think I’m in it for three more years, I don’t know. Maybe I’m in it for seven,” he laughed.

“I can’t play a high school kid forever though because I’m damn near 30. But it’s a great show, I think it should go on as long as it can.”

Golden Globes Red Carpet: Lea Michele Talks Justin Bieber, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Return To ‘Glee’

“Glee” has brought its stars face-to-face with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, from guests like Britney Spears to Gwyneth Paltrow (more on her later….) And since the cast has made not only a big splash on the small screen, but the music charts as well, it was something of a shock for us to find out Lea Michele has not yet met fellow pop-culture breakout Justin Bieber!

The actress gabbed with MTV News on the red carpet as she made her way into the 68th Annual Golden Globes (where she was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series-Comedy or Musical) when the topic of the Biebs came up.

When MTV News’ Josh Horowitz told Lea that the “Never Say Never” star was going to be in attendance on Sunday, the pint-sized actress with the big voice exclaimed, “No way! You’re lying. That’s crazy!”

Despite the fact that Lea’s “Glee”-mates will be singing Justin’s tunes on their show soon, she admitted she hasn’t yet encountered the tween sensation in person.

But it wasn’t their paths not crossing that shocked Lea. “I’m surprised that there isn’t mind-blowing screaming happening right now,” she said, giving a nod to the Biebs’ very vocal fans. When she was told she’d arrived before Justinmania had hit, she told us, “I’m glad I get inside before that happens, because it might hurt.”

In addition to talking about J-Biebs, Lea also touched on the upcoming anticipated return of Gwyneth Paltrow. While the star admitted she wasn’t sure what would be in store for Holly Holliday, she spoke for all Gleeks when she said, “I’m excited. Anything with Gwyneth is great.”

Anne Hathaway on Glee

Ryan Murphy confirmed that Anne Hathaway will be starring on Glee.

“We just finalized a deal with Anne tonight to come onto the show,” creator Ryan Murphy told PEOPLE on Sunday at the Golden Globe awards, where “Glee” was named best comedy or musical for the second straight year.

“She’s already created [her role],” Murphy said. “She wants to play the lesbian aunt of Chris Colfer. Because everyone needs a lesbian aunt.”
